Meet The Team

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 - The Early County 2055 design studio was swirling with activity today as the heads-down work began in earnest. The design team sharpened their pencils, peered at aerial views of the county, and ventured into the specific designs that they'll ultimately present. Citizens dropped by throughout the day to ask questions and sign up for committees. Meetings with stakeholders continued.

By mid-afternoon an idea emerged for the northeast portion of Blakely's square. Earlier in the week, it was noted that the area was underutilized, yet possessed incredible potential to add life to the downtown area. A unique idea to accomplish this was hatched.

Over at the Chamber office, a meeting took place to focus on the complex issue of housing and how to meet current and future needs of the community. The lack of affordable housing topped the list in today's discussion.

As the day progressed, a secondary residence river village began to take shape, complete with walking trails to the Chattahoochee. As Howard Blackson, planner with the design team began to share his ideas, project benefactors Charles and Catherine Rice arrived in the studio. As an added treat for the team, Mr. and Mrs. Rice were able to share in Howard's briefing.

Throughout the day, Project Principal Susan Henderson fielded phone calls, answered citizen questions, conducted feedback sessions and, at one point, fixed the printer so designers could continue their frenzied pace.

Finally, in pursuit of inspiration and perspective, the team made an evening trip to Eufala, Alabama.

The ideas taking shape will be presented at the Pin-Up Meeting, taking place Thursday, 5-6:30pm, at the county Court House.
