The Waters

June 2006

The Big Easy, Only Easier
Before you know it, residents and visitors of The Waters will experience the true flavor of old New Orleans as a bank of inspired townhomes begins rising on Pier Street Park. With only seven in the first phase, the homes will offer a number of desirable configurations, all with beautiful views. The Waters will be hosting a special "Taste of New Orleans" townhome event on Sunday, June 25, from 5-7pm. Don't miss out. RSVP today at 334.272.3200, and let the bon temps roulez!

Gone Fishin'
Creating a world-class fishing lake - like we're doing with our 200-acre Lake Cameron - is a serious endeavor, subject to rigorous procedures and more than a little luck. Which is why we were so thrilled with our most recent assessment, indicating that our bass are in excellent condition and are growing well. Stocked one year ago, we've reached an average size of 12 inches, with weights between one and 1.5 pounds (a condition the specialist referred to as "plump and fat"). Check them out for yourself, with catch-and-release fishing available to all residents and guests of The Waters.

More Homes Than Ever Under Construction
Between the Charleston Sideyards rising on Bright Spot Street and the numerous homes completing the upper portion of Chapel Hill Street, The Waters now has more homes under construction than ever before. Add to that the recently completed paving of Ring Around Road, which features some of our largest lots (many with exceptional views), and the infrastructure work underway on the Point, and there's now greater opportunity than ever to find your ideal home at The Waters.

Biking for a Good Cause
On Saturday, June 10, 34 bicyclists gathered to ride in support of the Kid One organization, which arranges transportation to medical facilities for needy children and expectant mothers. Sponsored by The Waters and the Montgomery Bicycle Club, the 31-mile Bike Ride started at 8am and included 2 rest stops. A post-race party followed the ride starring the band "Moonshine Cherries," as well as an incredible spread from Dominic's Fine Foods.

Fences Don't Just Make Good Neighbors
Oftentimes, people think of fencing strictly from a functional standpoint, forgetting just how much a well-crafted example can contribute to their surroundings. One section of The Waters Pattern Book - our architectural guidelines - deals with all manner of fencing. As a result, a number of stellar examples have recently risen within the Lucas Point neighborhood, demonstrating beautiful form in both front yard and privacy fences.

A View from the Hill: The Turret House
Take a walk up Chapel Hill Street from the Square and you're bound to notice the stunning turret capping the new home at the corner of Chapel Hill and Boardwalk, which creates a "terminated vista," a classic element of some of the world's most beloved places. By definition, the terminated vista establishes destination views and creates a comfortable enclosure to public space. In practice, however, it's just one more example of why beauty matters, and why The Waters takes such detailing so seriously.

Big Crowds Experience Spring Tour of Homes
Capitalizing on a rare opportunity - just once a year - to tour the inside of some of The Waters finest homes, over 500 people made a visit May 6 and 7 as part of our Spring Tour of Homes. Following their guided access to eight unique homes, each day concluded with a full complimentary dinner - ribs and barbeque Saturday from neighborhood favorite The Lunch Box and a mighty stack of Dominic's pizzas on Sunday.
