The Waters

July 2007

Sparks Fly for the Fourth
For the third year in a row, The Waters served as “downtown” for the town of Pike Road’s Fourth of July Summerfest celebration. Over 2,000 people dropped by, enjoying everything from a water slide, dunking booth, scavenger hunt and apple pie contest to live music, sack races, and a momentous fireworks display that was viewable for the first time from the Crescent.

See You at the Movies
It’s almost as though a movie theatre has sprouted on The Waters Lucas Point square this summer, as every Saturday in June, July and August features “Movies on the Square,” out on the lawn with glorious surround sound provided by CMC Automation. Opening night, with “Finding Nemo,” brought out a healthy crowd of folks both young and young at heart, many of whom enjoyed dinner at the adjacent Bridge Street Market beforehand.

Having a Ball
Considering the phenomenal success of our tennis courts – which have quite literally become a social hub of the community – it’s no wonder The Waters has fast-tracked construction of three more, plus one for basketball. Ground was broken just recently and everything looks good for an October completion.

Thing are Looking Up at the Meeting House
Work, and progress, continues on The Waters’ Chapel Hill Meeting House including, most recently, installation of the building’s impressive steeple. Once completed, the building will seat over 260 people and be ideal for everything from community meetings to movie nights to all-out dream weddings. In fact, its first wedding is expected to coincide with the building’s completion in late September.

You Can Bank on It
The diverse collection of amenities ‘round The Waters Lucas Point square continues to grow, most recently with Community Bank and Trust’s announcement that they expect to have a branch opening this fall. The addition will complement the already existing market/restaurant, home furnishings and design boutique, dentist office, YMCA and life counseling practice.

Welcome to the Neighborhood
One thing The Waters takes seriously is the job of being neighborly. One example is the good will extended to companies locating in the surrounding area. In June alone, both ProEthic Pharmaceuticals and Colonial Bank employees were invited out for special events complete with grilled food and fishing clinics for the kids.

Greening the Airwaves
As part of their report on earth-friendly development, Kim Hendrix and Rob Hatchell of WSFA’s Alabama Live show featured The Waters recently. Both the hosts and their crew came onsite, conducting lengthy interviews with sales agent Andrew Gerachis, builder Bob Parker and marketing director Nathan Norris. Given the more prevalent focus on new, environmentally friendly technologies, it was refreshing to see recognition of the green benefits inherent in many methods of traditional design and construction.

Biking for a Good Cause. Again.
For the second year in a row, The Waters played host recently to the “Wheelin’ and Healin’” charity biking event to support Kid One, which arranges transportation to medical facilities for needy children and expectant mothers. The event began at the Lucas Point Town Square at 8am, traveled a winding, 31 mile course, and concluded back at The Waters later that afternoon. Thanks to everyone who participated.
