The Waters

August 2008

Green Accolades
This year’s EcoMAX Home Expo was more than just a chance for us to demonstrate The Waters’ extensive achievements in green development; it also presented opportunity to be recognized for the effort. The Waters proudly received the Green Leadership Award for its green building practices, its 2007 Energy Audit which helped identify green building best practices, and our partnership with the Alabama Home Builders Association on the 2008 EnergyKey Demonstration Home at The Waters.

Pike Road Turns Out for Another Great 4th
This year marked the first time that we conducted our own Parade at the Waters. It included decorated golf carts and bikes and residents of all ages. After our Parade, many residents jumped on the Waters float that was displayed at the Pike Road Parade. Later in the day the Waters once again hosted the Town of Pike Road’s annual Summerfest July 4th celebration. This year’s Summerfest included live music, an apple-pie contest, sack races, dunking booth, tug of war, water slides and, of course, spectacular fireworks.

Olympians in the Making?
August’s Olympic games have ignited a serious case of volleyball fever here at The Waters. Not to worry, though, as the ideal treatment -- in the form of weekly Beach Volleyball matches -- is readily available, right at the edge of our 200 acre Lake Cameron. Keep an eye out!

Back to School with a Bang
With the close of summer bringing dismay to kids everywhere, what better reason to kick off the school year right with a carnival? That was the case at The Waters on August 16 as a huge crowd of residents – and their friends from throughout the area – turned out for a great day of fun: a balloon stomp; tug of war; egg toss; pie throwing contest; three legged race; sack race; and football throw.

Can’t Stop the Music
Throughout the summer, on various Friday or Saturday evenings, the Lucas Point Town Square was essentially transformed into an amphitheatre as folks from all over turned out for live music, with many enjoying dinner at the Bridge Street Market before and during the show. Great fun all around.

Chapel Hill Meeting House – Online
Everything you might need to know about The Waters’ Chapel Hill Meeting House, as well as how to reserve it for weddings, meetings or corporate retreats, is now available online right here. Check it out, then consider the Meeting House the next time you’re putting together a gathering of your own.

The Waters Knows Water
As another example of green innovation at The Waters, residents Andrew Gerachis and Cathy Gerachis recently completed installation of a 2,000 gallon underground cistern connected directly to the downspouts of their home’s gutters. They now have enough water to keep their extensive landscape lush and green without using a drop from our municipal source.
