The Waters

February 2008

A Little More Iron in the Diet
More than 50 folks came together at the recently completed Chapel Hill Meeting House in late November to watch the Auburn Tigers slip by the Alabama Crimson Tide, 17-10, in the annual Iron Bowl. With both hoots and jeers, not to mention high-definition projection on the enormous Movies on the Square inflatable screen, the event was the next best thing to being there.

Santa Comes to the Waters
Santa Claus made a surprise visit to The Waters this holiday, making use of downtime while his sleigh was in for repairs. Catching a ride courtesy of the Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department, the ever-popular Mr. Claus found himself on the receiving end of more than a few requests from neighborhood kids.

Caroling, Waters-Style, Becomes a Tradition
Architecture at The Waters isn’t the only thing with time-honored elegance, style and tradition… Some of our activities seem equally bestowed. Such was the case in December as a healthy collection of residents gathered once again for our second annual holiday caroling party. Pictured here, the group serenades the residents of The Waters’ bungalow court.

First Snow at The Waters
Though it’s been several years since construction began here, January 19th brought with it The Waters’ very first snowfall. Though accumulation was relatively light, excitement was not as residents both young and young at heart welcomed the opportunity to get out, catch snowflakes, visit with neighbors, and revel in the sounds of delighted kids all around.

Mr. Playborhood Comes to Town
Though it may come as no surprise to folks who live here, one of the most desirable benefits of The Waters’ traditional design is that it presents an ideal environment for kids to get out and play. We knew word of this was beginning to get out, but had no idea how far. In January, we heard from Californian Mike Lanza, founder of Playborhood.com, an organization devoted to getting kids out and playing again. In February, Mike made the journey out to explore The Waters for himself and has since had some awfully nice things to say about us on his blog. Read all about it here, here, here and here.

Love in the Air
Love was in the air this February as The Waters played host to a full evening of Valentine’s Day activities. First off was a special, reservation-only dinner at the neighborhood’s Bridge Street Market, where individual couples slowly morphed into one large group of celebrants. Later, residents cut a rug at our first Valentine’s Dance, held in the ever-romantic Chapel Hill Meeting House.

Building Something Together
The International Builders Show, the biggest event of the year for homebuilders, took place recently and several members of our Builders Guild made the trek to Orlando, Florida, to investigate new products and trends. Pictured here is Builders Guild president, Bob Parker, with our WeatherShield window regional representative, Pat Sammet. Pat demonstrated the ultra high-energy performance of the Zo-e-shield windows we’ll be using in the 2008 EnergyKey Demonstration Home at The Waters.
