The Waters

October 2008

Another Great Idea
Once again, The Waters has teamed with Montgomery Living magazine on an all-new Idea House – this time an innovative, waterfront courtyard home that, though right in the middle of everything, is defined by intimate, private spaces. Featuring ample views of Lake Cameron, the beach and Boat House and designed to meet the demands of today's active and time-constrained lifestyles, this striking new home (plus the six others next door) take privacy and comfort to the next level, while leaving the drudgery of yardwork behind.

Wine, with a Joyful Heart
October brought our 1st Annual Wine and Arts Festival in support of a great cause -- and we’re not even talking about the 50+ wines chosen especially for the occasion! Sponsored by RSVP Magazine, Peppertree Steaks N' Wines, the Bridge Street Market and The Waters, the event supported the Joy to Life Foundation, and helped them reach their 1,000 commitment requirement to have the State of Alabama offer "Fight Breast Cancer" car tags. Under perfect fall skies, over 200 people enjoyed a variety of fine wines, tasty finger foods, live music by Lucky Jackson as well as Henry Pugh, Jr., and hand-picked local artists displaying and selling their work.

Gone Hawaiian
One doesn’t normally find Hawaiian music, tiki torches and Hawaiian specialty foods on the beach of The Waters’ 200 acre Lake Cameron, and that’s what helped make the Chamber of Commerce's recent "Alive After Five" EMERGE Luau for Montgomery’s young professionals (20 to 40) so special. Featuring the finest “Hawaii in Alabama” fare from our own Bridge Street Market, the event reached a high point with a limbo contest, ultimately won by Danielle Gornik.

Caught Having Fun
Why hold your child’s birthday party under the fluorescent lights of an indoor play facility, when you can soak up all the glory of the big outside, and maybe even learn something in the process. That was the idea recently when one of our junior-sized residents chose to bring all her friends from school out to The Waters for an afternoon of fishing. With certificates for things such as largest fish caught, or most patient angler – plus a few dads on hand to help out – the party was a perfect example of how a simple ritual can become something much more special and unique at The Waters.

This Parade Shows No Signs of Slowing Down
Despite the relative slow-down in real estate around the country, The Waters’ fall Parade of Homes was full steam ahead as over 2,000 visitors dropped by to tour homes and see what we’ve been up to. Encouraged by great weather, many folks were learning about The Waters for the first time, and some even decided during their visit to make their home here. Together with our well-publicized Montgomery Living Idea House, The Waters offered more homes in the Parade than anywhere else in the River Region.

A Passport to Fitness
As an inherently walkable community itself, The Waters proved the perfect site recently for the Alabama Department of Economic Development and Community Affairs’ "Passport to Fitness" regional meeting. Designed to encourage the promotion of walking, the “Passport to Fitness” program is patterned after the European Volksmarch -- a movement that encourages people to go on non-competitive, self-guided walks -- and hopes to stimulate local economies, promote fitness and promote interest in the cities, towns and communities of Alabama.
